I'm replacing the battery in my ranger and was wondering just how much the stock blanket or wrap that goes around the battery does. It's not a heated blanket it's just a foam koolie cup for the battery. Should I put it back on or pitch it?

my guess is that it protects the battery from the engine's heat more than anything...being in Ohio is not likely to produce any huge amount of heat that would be an issue, but I am just taking a WAG here.

If it is in good condition, put it back on, it doesn't cost anything. if it is ratty or about to fall apart, pitch it.

My 97 does not have a battery blanket, but it does have a plastic sheath that slides over the battery once the battery is mounted, so I would imagine your foam one is a cheaper alternative for Ford to put in their newer trucks :)

Yeah, they don't do much. As said, if it's in good shape put it back in, but if it's ratty and worn out don't waste money replacing it.
