what happens when you dont have a ballast resistor. right now it will run for about a minute and then die. reason I asked is I wired in the duraspark but didnt put a ballast in the system
what coil are you using? The ballast resister only relates to the coil after starting. Some coils need one some don't..have you ran the coil before?...
TFI coils run on 12 volts..older canister types usually needed a resister unless specially built to not need one..the coil paperwork or the coil itself should say what it needs
on the quality of the current "aftermarket supply" of "duraspark boxes"...some say they originally were NOT made to fire a "non ballast resisted coil"...YMMV based on what box ur runnin'...another thing to be aware of.
i've got the old style canister type, I've built a circuit using a relay to bypass during startup then run on resistor after start. what kind of syptoms do you have when a resitor is not used, heats up then shuts down till the coil cools?
If you still have the stock TFI coil just put it in and scrap the resistor. The TFI coil will give you all the spark you will need just use the plugs for a late 80s 5.0. Motorcraft are the best from what I hear but autolite single platinum is all I use in all my engines.
