i have an 05 ranger 4.0 4x4 automatic i was on the beach for about a week in 4wd the hose clamp broke on the upper radiator hose and the truck over heated as soon as i noticed it i turned the truck off and open the hood i got the truck cooled down and put a new clamp on it and filled it back up with water on the way home riding down the highway at about 70 to 75 mph and heard a loud bang sounded like it came from the transmission then the rpms went from around 2500 up to about 4000 then down to around 1500 and down some more around 0 up to 100 up to 200 then came back to around 1500 by this time i had it slowed down where i could pull over had it towed the rest of the way home got there and the truck cranks up and runs fine and goes through the gears fine and pulls like nothing happend im lost and have no idea what happend does any one have any clue what it might be it didnt throw any codes and no lights came on

Once you stopped did you try to pull out again? I could have easily been the transfer case and not the trans! check all your fluids and if you dont find anything low just keep an eye on it.
