Bad Fram Fuel Filter

I had put that filter on last December I think it was. I just did a search at rockauto.com....they have Motorcraft fuel filters for $10.71....

Not to stick up for Fram or the Chinese.... but I wonder if ethanol prematurely eats at the glue? I'm almost certain the media was glued in place.

That's certainly a possibility. They probably don't have ethanol fuel in China so no one at the manufacturing plant thought to test for it's effects (though you would think Fram or whoever could specify for it be tested, but who knows if that gets lost in translation or something  ).

Just further reason to buy USA.

The ethanol fuel plays heck with pretty much any component of the fuel system, so its very possible that could be causing the increasing number of fuel filter failures.

One question I have regarding the fuel filter, has anyone found a way to screw in a length of fuel line or something to the carburetor to allow a different type of fuel filter to be used such as ones you can take apart and clean and reuse? I would like to so something like that because I'm always afraid of damaging the threads on the carburetor and then not being able to use the vehicle until a new carburetor could be installed.

Get a barb fitting that can screw in the carb with some Teflon tape on the threads. Hook fuel line to it and your filter. Done that before and worked like a charm.

Awesome idea, didn't think of that one. Thanks. Might be my weekend project. Any idea where to get a re-usable filter from? I know they're out there but can't remember where I've seen them.

Good thing somebody dug this thread up....I been using Fram for 45....yep...45 years.....I'ma quit while I'm ahead....since this is the 4th time somebody said Fram was trouble

I put one fram filter on my WRX a few years ago and put it away for the winter. When I got it out in the spring I started it up and it knocked hard really hard. About 2 weeks latter it spun a rod barring. I had stored the car before with Subaru filters on it with no problem. After that I only use manufacture filters on vehicles.

I am ditching the factory set up like i do on all my stuff. Once you get out aways up here you may be hand pumping or siphoning your fuel out of a tank or barrel and it aint always the best. On your rewards card out there with a fill up you get 12 oz water, 2 tbsp. dirt, 3 twigs and part of a leaf. I have a racor set up on the ranger shelf same as is in my jet boat. I also carry a funnel with a fine mesh screen to catch the chunks.

I ditched the factory style with the silly spring lock fittings.

I put a cartridge style housing in its place and run a 10 micron Wix filter.

No glue to fail, the cartridge is squeezed together by a bolt and sealed with an o-ring.

I will admit its a Fram housing, but I didn't even use the filter it cam with.lol

I've thought about doing that sort of thing since I want to say that I've seen ones like that for fuel injected motors.... care to share exactly how you did it and where you found the filter setup?

I cut the quick disconnect fittings off an old stainless Motorcraft filter and used 5/16 compression to 3/8 male NPT adapters to screw into the housing. the new filter housing will just connect to the stock lines easy as pie.

Nice work guys, going to attempt a different fuel filter setup here soon as I don't particularly care for the stock filter at all.
