So I bought a Innova 3140b for OBD1 and OBD2 with ABS+SRS upgrade( had to download) Because I wanted a good tool. So I plug into my 93 ranger 4.0, and run a KOEO test and it comes back 111/PASS.

So I decided to run a KOEO Test and the computer says can not get Cylinder ID, run KOEO test till you get 111/PASS, I already did.

So then I decide to push my luck and go straight to a Cylinder balance test and leave it to the winds...well it loads up and then it tells me to press the accelerator halfway light and then let off...so I do and all it does is rev the engine, it's still telling me to push even tho I did. So i push it a couple of times...nothing, push it all the way down....nothing. Could I have a bad computer. Innova is a good product I hear so I doubt its the tool.

Could be but I would test it on another vehicle first.

Did you upgrade the software yourself after you got it?

yea, just plug and upgrade, said it was successful.

Well you could unplug the MAF or TPS sensor on the truck then start it up and see if CEL comes on, that would mean ECU is most likely working.

Or test it on another vehicle.

'93 is OBD I, so not a smart ECU, it won't have all the OBD II features available.

Engine runs and revs?

Computer ain't the problem.

Well it does run and rev but..... it won't do the cylinder test and the tool is not receiving the number of cylinders.

Does it have a cam sensor?
