I have an '85 2.8L and when I turn the AC on it seems to put my engine under an extreme load and surgest when driving. Its to the point to where the engine will sometimes shut off. If I'm running the AC while driving I have to keep giving it gas at redlights to make sure it doesn't shut down on me. When I turn the ac off it is back to normal idle and rpms.

Could this be a bad clutch or the whole compressor? It cools the truck really wheel when running.
