Hi, I'm sorta new here. Been a member for a while, but never posted because I have had no issues with my truck....until now.

I think my clutch is shot. I say this because when I am driving up hill, I slip and I can feel the trans chattering; stepping on the gas will cause the same results. If I want to drive it, I have to baby the shit out of it.

I have searched all over this site before I posted this. I am looking for some detailed instructions on how to remove the trans and replace the clutch and what I should look for/replace when the trans is out.

The truck is a 1996 XLT 4x4 supercab, 4.0 v6. m5, 145K miles.

thanks much!!

if the clutch is slippin, its definately time to replace it. to remove the trans you need to remove the driveshafts, the clutch hydraulic line, then remove the starter and y pipe for the exhaust. remove the shifter from the trans and shifter or all electrical connections going to the tcase. You need to get ahold of a trans jack and position it under the trans. then remove the crossmember and all the bellhousing to engine bolts and the trans will come out. While your in there now is the time to replace the slave cylinder along with a complete clutch kit. Also dont forget to get your flywheel resurfaced before reinstall. good luck i'll be doing this myself here in the next few weeks, i almost feel i could do this in my sleep with how many times I've pulled trannys from rangers or b2's. also get yourself a chiltons as it will have torque specs and pictures.
