i just changed the upper and lower ball joint on a dana 35. now with the camber bushing in and the bolt tight. i still get some slight play. but i am moving the steering knuckle with out a tire on it. also i do have grease between the bushing and the ball joint shaft. and the bushing and the i beam. with the upper ball joint stud all nice and tight. the upper ball joint shaft moves in the camber bushing. is that ok?

No, that is NOT okay. That balljoint stud should be tight in the bushing. Make SURE the pinch bolt is tight and the snap ring is installed WITH the wieght of the vehicle on it. THEN make sure your lower balljoint nut is tight.

A couple times I've had to really tighten those pinch bolts good to get a firm clamp on the bushings.

If no amount of tightening will make it secure, then I would suspect a bad (worn) bushing, or a worn axle beam.
