I relocated another Possum today. One of my friends said there was one living in his hedges and he asked for my help since he knows I love animals so much and my property has all the woods and the river that runs behind us. That is a great place to release any critter. This is the third time I have done this in the past three years for somebody I know.

Found this sweet little scorpion in the house today. Sorry for the crappy photo, I forgot to set the camera for outside mode ans I did see it until I looked at the photos this afternoon. I did not adjust the setting, I just snapped a quick photo and I had to release this 6 inch beastie. So far this makes 4 we have found crawling around the house in about three years. They usually stay out back where they belong. The weather is warm here and they love to visit us and see what's for supper....lol

Since it has been warm for winter this Gopher turtle laid eggs a month ago while I watched and I snapped a photo. The world is changing from all this global warming. We had fruit on plants that don't produce fruit until later in the year and we had fruit three months earlier. I still have new butterflies that came out of their chrysalis just today and earlier this month and last month. Strange......plus...our hummingbirds are still hear and they usually migrate until spring!!

Straycat you get a big thumbs up from me. When hurricane Francis went through my area of Florida I found 2 less than one month old baby raccoons in my 5 acre backyard who were orphaned. Bottle fed them both and they are pets now. They use the cat litter boxes and are the most gentle pets I ever had. When I had blood tests and health evaluations done on them, they were free from all diseases....they get along with our 3 cats and 2 dogs too.
I just can't believe how cowardly coon hunting is....tree a raccoon and shoot it while it is completely helpless. Takes a real gutless scumbag to do something like that.
Gopher tortoises, crazy squirrels, possums and even black bears sometimes rummage through the property.
You can't miss my backyard sign....."All poachers and armed trespassers will be shot on sight!".
Keep up the good work!
I am still hopefull that Eagles QB Michael Vick will get his neck broken one game.

My cats and racoons say you are their hero!!!! I can't see the sport in that type of hunting either, Bro!!!

Jill (below) says ' Thanks for caring '. I rescured her last month. Her mom was killed by a car near us and she was by her moms side when I found her and brought her home. I am going to relase her next month.

Ya me too. Only wild in Australia though

I could make a mountain of skulls with all the racoons I've shot. They are great animals, no question, having adapted to thrive near man. But they are rabies sponges and come in contact with your outdoor animals at night--and even during the day when they get bold enough. I leave my garbage bags in the garage and drop them off once a week. Any mistake in leaving a garage door open any time past 5pm and the garbage will be scattered. They will come through a pet door and eat cat or dog food in your kitchen. They will attack your cat if it defends its bowl. They will attack your chickens in broad daylight when they get bold. They are awful hunters and end up wounding 10 birds before they succeed in catching one. Most of those die. I hate racoons, honestly, and show no mercy. They are an enemy to my way of life. I like to keep a barn cat to deal with mice, and I like to keep chickens. Racoons are my worst enemy. They have no natural predator anymore and I don't feel the least bit bad in taking over that role.

'Possums are a different story. I like 'possums. They can't carry rabies so are no threat to my cat and so children. They like eggs, but don't attack the chickens. They are not aggressive, even when captured. It makes them easy to dump out of the trap. I've had to kill only 2 of them in my 15 years of country living. In both cases I really had no other options and I feel bad about it.

The amount of abandoned cats that I've killed is also very high. There's a useless creature. Cats were bred to control rodents around the homestead. When people stop in the country and throw out their cat they don't want anymore, it becomes a serious nuisance to us that have real barn cats. These stray house cats attack and compete with the barn cats--bigger bad house cats can kill or drive off smaller, rodent-expert barn cats. I've had it happen many times. Getting a good barn cat is a really, really tough thing. It's like finding a good NFL quarterback. Once you get it, no raccoon or stray cat is going to rank very high on your friends list.

My barn cat was recently eaten by a coyote and I'm really upset about that. She survived a coyote attack a year ago and recovered from a crushed pelvis. She was not as good of a hunter after that, but she still did the job. Now, despite my best efforts, she was killed. I have to find another cat, which will mean trying several out--most don't make the cut.

I see a raccoon, I see a bad hat. I don't see an endangered species or one that does anyone any good. A 'possum, yeah, that's a pretty cool animal. An Australian Outback creature in North America.

i like coons.....had a few as pets.
