So im looking at installing a posi traction lok differential in my rangers rear axel to get rid of the one wheel peel and i was wondering if i would have to mess with the backlash or anything else? I know i need to replace the old carrier with the posi trac one but i wasnt sure if i had to mess with the backlash at all when installing it. Thanks for the help it is very much appreciated!

It will depend. You might or you might not have to. Check your backlash before you disassemble and check it when you are done. If it needs adjusting, adjust it.

Alright, thanks for the help and im guessing ill need a specialty tool to measure the backlash, correct?

Sorry not the best tutorial but if your swapping the ring gear check for run out first. so the gear lash is consistent for a complete revolution. It can be time consuming but your gears will last alot longer. I just put a trac-loc in my ranger and bought a used carrier with a 3.73 ring and pinion got it all together and found out the clutches were shot in the carrier. I had to pull it out and put new clutches in not the easiest thing to do laying on your back. If you have the time and space it will be easier to pull the rearend out and do it out in the open. If your just changing the carrier you must have proper preload on the carrier bearings, run out on the ring gear within spec and gear lash within spec. Then paint the gears and check your wear pattern is center of the ring gear. GL
