Its been a couple of years since I've been on the forum. Then I was asking about this 2000 4WD, Manual, 3.0 V6, with LS rear end and recomendation for a shop that my son could have it repaired around Asheville, NC. At the time, he had a rebuilt long block installed.

This Ranger had been around the family since I bought it new. Last fall working in California, gas prices were eating him up among truck's other issues. He bought a Subaru Wilderness Crosstrek and was going to drive the Ranger home to SC for Christmas and fly back. The weekend before Christmas, brakes quit on I40 at Milan, NM. Axle was coming out of rear end. The shop where it was at told him that they could start Monday, but would not have all the parts until Tuesday. He was lucky when a guy pulled up in a Ranger and offered a ride to Albuqucurque aieport for a tank of gas.

Fast forward, a couple of weeks ago the truck arrived in my yard. I see a new axle and maybe new backing plate on passenger side. I do not see any evidence that differential cover has been removed. I suspect that C clip was not put on new axle. Planning to pull the cover and check before driving truck to our old place in the country for other repairs. Will post pics.

That's a good looking truck, and you're the original owner, to boot.

That, my friend, is a huge win.

Reminds me of a classic line:
"Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you"

Well done!

Good luck with it.

hmmm

drum i assume if it came out before.

why it came out being important.

generally that is a twisted off unit. fairly clean or penciled break.

anything else would usually result in side gear and ring/pinion destruction.

if it was an clutch type l/s diff non torsen, for sure that spring coming out of there with a c clip or popped button would cause an issue or 70.

never know though.

thats a great looking truck
