Back Spacing Science HELP !!!

I did a search and came up with a lot of info, so much I am confused to the extent that I need a matrix to decipher everything.

BUT, BUT... can some one help me out with two things?

1) Is there a chart somewhere for OEM Wheels "Size vs Back Spacing" on the Ranger ?

2) Does anyone know if a 4" back Spacing will effect an '03 Ranger Edge 4WD on a 16 x 8 wheel ?

Thanks a head of time for any input.

As far as I know stock bs is 4.5 and you should be fine with 4" and a 8" rim...

But that's heresay, I have no facts or solid info to back that up...

"Word on the street is....."

Thanks for the info, I am ordering a set of 16 x 8 x 4" BS.

Slotted Aluminum Mags.

Out with the steel wheels w/ baby moons, in with another set of aluminum wheels.

Yeah...what they all said....8" w/ 4" is a VERY common setup. little wider track width. I'm running 10" with 4" and it puts the tire just outside the flare.

It isn't teh outside I am worried about it is the rubbing of the inner pieces, i.e. Caliper, Ball Joints and the such.

IF and that is a big IF, the RCD lift become available again or something similar to i I want one so I am trying to buy wheels that will work with it also.
RCD recommended a 4" max BS so that was the most important part.

Thanks for all of the info guys, I appreciate the help.

They probably mean a maximum of 4" backspace, no more sucked in than that. If sucked in more than that, you'll run into wheel hitting steering knuckles I'd assume. The bigger the number of backspace, the more sucked in the wheel is. The lower the number, the more sticking out.

BUT...I can tell you now that my buddy has an RCD on his truck now, and is running 16x8 ProComp 7023's w/ 4" bs and has no issues. You've gotta downgrade the brakes for the RCD install anyway, so hitting calipers or balljoints aren't an issue. Shoot....you'll have no issues.

IF, how I understand the Back Spacing thing is real, then the mounting point of the Rim is exactly halfway and there will be the Center Mounting Section of the Wheel and the part that sticks out will end up the remainder of the wheel width.

This sounds to me to be the best situation for the wheel bearing almost a perfect divide of teh weight and wear.

I purchased the Slotted Wheel )SLT Muscle Mags) yesterday so time will tell.

Performance Plus did not have a listing so that bothered me but all of the specs were the Ranger sizes. The thing that really bothered me but I ordered anyway ($$$) was the fact that the Sales Person could not understand why I wanted to buy a wheel that did not have a listing for a particular vehicle. Their response was, "Well if that is what you want I will sell it to you but it does not have a listing for your vehicle".
Does anyone now-a-days sell something that they know about, why would you try and sell something you didn't know about, wheels that is, Widths, Back Spacing Fitment in general ??? GOT ME !

Anyway, I hope the Sales Person got the measurements right.

Again, thanks to all for the input:icon_cheers:, I appreciate it and I made my decission based on it; so if the Wheels don't fit I can blame you guys... ha, ha :icon_bounceblue:

Hell no, unfortunately. When I bought wheels/tires for my car a few years ago and I went to the tire shop with questions, the dude went on the same website I used to pick out my stuff to get "answers". No help at all. If the info was available on the site, I wouldn't be asking questions! Gotta love forums - the place for real answers!
