I had a '89 2WD long bed for years until about a year ago I was rear-ended so hard that I had to close the ashtray to put it in first gear. Progressive Insurance totaled it and got me a check quickly. There wasn't much in the area for in the way of a Ranger at that time and I ended up with a 85 B2000. Not a bad truck but it wasn't built solid like a Ranger. The Mazda blew it's head gasket in the cold weather we just had so I hit up craigslist and found an '89 again, clean and taken care of. This time I've got the 2.9L engine and a SuperCab. The V6 is great! It really gives the truck the power it needs. I always thought that the 2.3L was a bit lame. The extra room in the dry cab will be so nice (did you hear it rains a bit here in the PNW?)
I've got the manual 5 speed transmission and it does whine a bit under power. My old Ranger had it's own set of manual transmission sounds and it never gave me much of a problem. Do I need to worry much about this? The truck has 180k on it.
I've been reading the forums all night and it looks like a good bunch of folks here.
