~2"? I bought it this way.
Hello. This is my first Ranger but I've had a few Fords. My dad was and is mostly a blue oval fan (we both are fond of brick nose F-series trucks) so I grew up in and around 80's and 90's Fords. My mom had an '86 Bronco for most of my childhood and my dad went through several F-series and a couple Rangers until about 10 years ago when he got a Dodge 2500 Cummins. At one time he also had a squarebody Suburban and I also fell in love with those trucks. I used to have an '80 K10 Suburban and I've had an '84 K5 Blazer for about 13 years now I think.

About 7 years ago I sold my 1990 F250 4x4 because I just didn't need that much truck anymore. I got myself a nice 1993 GMC Sonoma extended cab 2wd with the 4.3l V6 and an automatic. I really like that pickup but being only 2wd I'd almost gotten it stuck 4 or 5 times so recently I decided that I wanted a 4x4. The Blazer does awesome in the snow but guzzles gas like a college girl drinks White Claw, and I'd like to get 35" tires on it so not the most practical daily driver or road trip vehicle. I could go out and finance a truck but I'm too cheap for that and I also really dislike the electric transfer case controls on almost all trucks made for the last 20 years. Took me close to a month of checking FB market place and CL daily but I found a decent 1994 Ranger 4x4 extended cab with everything I could possibly want. I would have preferred the previous body style because my dad had one when I was a kid but I couldn't didn't find any close to me so I settled for this style, which I like fine enough. Heck I was 10 when they introduced this body style and would cut pics of them and every other truck out of magazines and tape them on my bedroom wall. And they were even kind enough to deliver it to me if I paid for gas (the truck was about a 90 minute drive from where I live). I drove out there and looked it over gave him the cash for the title and his buddy brought it to me on a trailer and only asked for $40.

I took this pic from the CL add, I'll take some of my own when it gets light out. The guy I bought it from had inherited this truck a few years ago so didn't know much about it. It's been mostly sitting but he said he would regularly start it and let it warm up a little. '94 Ranger 4x4, 4.0l/auto/ manual hubs and T-case/ and limited slip diff with 3.73 gears. Even has power windows and locks, which I wasn't concerned about but I'll take. The AC felt like it might have been blowing a few degrees colder than the ambient temp and I thought I could hear the compressor kicking on and off so hopefully that just needs a recharge (it was over 70 degrees today so I'll need that AC soon) The paint is trashed and there's a bad rust spot on the passenger side of the cab but I didn't find any more than that. I let the previous owner keep the tool box because I wanted the bed space and wouldn't have kept the box anyway. It has some aftermarket suspension components and it looks like it sets maybe 2" higher than stock. The 255/70r16 tires rub on the radius arms pretty good at full lock but they're not very aggressive and I'm not crazy about the wheels so I'm going to go down to a 15" wheel and hopefully with the right backspacing I won't have to go much smaller, if any, on the tires.

Trans felt like it shifted fine but the fluid is pretty dirty so I'll drop it off at my mechanic this week and get that changed and have them check it over for anything I might have missed. Fix or have fixed (I live in an apartment so I'm not supposed to work on my trucks here plus I work 12hr shifts so a lot of times I just don't feel like it if I even have time) what needs it then I'll chip away at the non-essentials as I can afford it.

Nice looking truck, sounds pretty well optioned. Yeah, decent first gen Rangers are getting hard to find in the rust belt. Welcome to the party

Southern Colorado isn't too bad for that but they're still hard to find. I'm guessing they mostly got scrapped when things went out on them. I did seriously consider a 1990 with a blown head gasket for $700 but someone else snatched it up before I could go look at it.

I got really lucky with this truck. (So far. We'll see what the mechanic says) Everything else I saw online turned out to have something that was a deal breaker or was too far away. Not only did this truck have everything I was hard-line on but it has everything I even hoped for. (minus not being a first gen) And they even delivered it on the cheap. I thought I might have to rent a trailer to go get it.

Yes, Cash For Clunkers and their age (and low value) has meant that some junkyards won't even bother holding them.

I'm in Illinois and I have seen one other pre-'88 Ranger on the road, rust has taken it's toll here.. I got lucky with mine too (well sort of). My truck didn't have a floor, so I needed a cab. I found one in Southern IL, and went to see. And it had underbody coating! Blew my mind at the time..

Welcome to TRS.

I would buff the paint job really good just to help stop the clear coat from peeling any more than whats peeled. Then maybe hit the fender flares and the bottom half of the truck with some black or dark gray rhino lining. Definitely get some tires that aren't gonna rub too. Nice truck though. Its getting harder and harder just finding a pre 2000 truck here in Ohio's rusty ass belt.

The paint is totally gone, no point in trying to save it at all. Badly cracked in places. I'm not crazy about the color either. When it comes time for the body work I might go for a silver color like what's on the bottom for the whole body and black on the flares and black bedliner on the lower portion since the truck will see a lot of dirt and gravel roads. Or maybe just white, whatever's cheap because the truck will be parked outside and driven offroad.

Grabbed a couple pics as I was leaving for work. I asked on Facebook what I should name it, best suggestion so far was "Purple Rain". I wasn't planning on keeping it purple so maybe I'll call it Prince instead.

Just heard from the mechanic. The Ranger needs an intake manifold gasket, pack the wheel bearings, and a new fuel filler neck. Honestly I was expecting worse.
