- ~2"? I bought it this way.
Hello. This is my first Ranger but I've had a few Fords. My dad was and is mostly a blue oval fan (we both are fond of brick nose F-series trucks) so I grew up in and around 80's and 90's Fords. My mom had an '86 Bronco for most of my childhood and my dad went through several F-series and a couple Rangers until about 10 years ago when he got a Dodge 2500 Cummins. At one time he also had a squarebody Suburban and I also fell in love with those trucks. I used to have an '80 K10 Suburban and I've had an '84 K5 Blazer for about 13 years now I think.
About 7 years ago I sold my 1990 F250 4x4 because I just didn't need that much truck anymore. I got myself a nice 1993 GMC Sonoma extended cab 2wd with the 4.3l V6 and an automatic. I really like that pickup but being only 2wd I'd almost gotten it stuck 4 or 5 times so recently I decided that I wanted a 4x4. The Blazer does awesome in the snow but guzzles gas like a college girl drinks White Claw, and I'd like to get 35" tires on it so not the most practical daily driver or road trip vehicle. I could go out and finance a truck but I'm too cheap for that and I also really dislike the electric transfer case controls on almost all trucks made for the last 20 years. Took me close to a month of checking FB market place and CL daily but I found a decent 1994 Ranger 4x4 extended cab with everything I could possibly want. I would have preferred the previous body style because my dad had one when I was a kid but I couldn't didn't find any close to me so I settled for this style, which I like fine enough. Heck I was 10 when they introduced this body style and would cut pics of them and every other truck out of magazines and tape them on my bedroom wall. And they were even kind enough to deliver it to me if I paid for gas (the truck was about a 90 minute drive from where I live). I drove out there and looked it over gave him the cash for the title and his buddy brought it to me on a trailer and only asked for $40.
I took this pic from the CL add, I'll take some of my own when it gets light out. The guy I bought it from had inherited this truck a few years ago so didn't know much about it. It's been mostly sitting but he said he would regularly start it and let it warm up a little. '94 Ranger 4x4, 4.0l/auto/ manual hubs and T-case/ and limited slip diff with 3.73 gears. Even has power windows and locks, which I wasn't concerned about but I'll take. The AC felt like it might have been blowing a few degrees colder than the ambient temp and I thought I could hear the compressor kicking on and off so hopefully that just needs a recharge (it was over 70 degrees today so I'll need that AC soon) The paint is trashed and there's a bad rust spot on the passenger side of the cab but I didn't find any more than that. I let the previous owner keep the tool box because I wanted the bed space and wouldn't have kept the box anyway. It has some aftermarket suspension components and it looks like it sets maybe 2" higher than stock. The 255/70r16 tires rub on the radius arms pretty good at full lock but they're not very aggressive and I'm not crazy about the wheels so I'm going to go down to a 15" wheel and hopefully with the right backspacing I won't have to go much smaller, if any, on the tires.
Trans felt like it shifted fine but the fluid is pretty dirty so I'll drop it off at my mechanic this week and get that changed and have them check it over for anything I might have missed. Fix or have fixed (I live in an apartment so I'm not supposed to work on my trucks here plus I work 12hr shifts so a lot of times I just don't feel like it if I even have time) what needs it then I'll chip away at the non-essentials as I can afford it.
