B4000, leaking fuel from tank, now won't start.

So I drive my truck Sunday and notice a gas odor. I look under the truck and gasoline is POURING out of the tank or at least is dripping off the bottom where I can see.

I park the truck for a few days while I consider what to do.

I go to use it to jump start my Fiero today, and the truck won't start. All I get is a click. There is plenty of power, just won't start.

Do I have a bad starter and a cracked gas tank or filler tube? What the hell? Any thoughts?

Oh and by the way I just spent big bucks on repairing the shackles and hangers. Plus rebuilding the entire rear brake system last summer. YAY!

update on condition

Truck started right up??? Wierd??

I looked around at the fuel leak and was able to stick my head up between the ebrake cable and fuel tank. I started the car, yes I know this is dangerous but I need to know what is going on up on top of the fuel tank. I saw the sending unit fuel lines cracked wide open spurting gasoline everywhere.

Basically I need to drop the tank and replace the fuel sending unit right?

Any ideas on the starting issue? I already replaced the fuel pump relay and tested the eec relay this morning.

Not sure about the starting issue, but DO NOT drop the tank. Simply remove the bed. Six T55 Torx bolts in the bed floor, unplug the taillight harness by the license plate, and three screws for the gas filler neck -- that's it. Then remove the bed. I've done it by myself but it's easier with a friend.

I fixed the truck. I removed the truck bed on Sat, and tried to remove the fuel lines so that I could replace them. It looked like a mouse chewed through my send line while I was away for a week. I unhooked the lines on both ends and unclipped the clips along the frame. But when I tried removing them they wouldn't budge. The lines run down under the gas tank and then along the frame. The only way to get them out would be to remove the gas tank; which is EXACTLY what I was trying to avoid by taking the bed off instead. So I gave up after trying every thing I could think of. I cut the line and put a union on and then put a large diameter line over top of both ends, then clamped the whole thing. It worked like a charm. Then I replaced the starter, and she started right up. I figure I saved my self about $300-$500 in labor. I'm tired and sore but it was worth it. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
