B4000 Auto trans reliability

Hey guys,

Just wondering about the transmissions on the B4000.

After the spark plug fiasco, I found out through the mechanic, that the leakdown test showed some bad compression in 3 out of the 6 cyliders.
3500 later, the truck has a low mileage engine being installed.

I really like the truck, but can't handle another setback like this, financially.

I had the trans flushed, and it runs well, but I'm almost considering selling it, if the trans is due at 94k miles

I just drive it around town, it has an oil cooler, and I really baby it.........otherwise I get 10 MPG.

ARe they pretty good overall? or should I be saving up again

It's one of the better transmissions Ford put in these trucks. I wouldn't expect the trans to fail suddenly. Not like it's an A4LD or anything.

Ah, thanks man, that makes me feel alot better. maybe it was the 3 litre trans. Maybe I just heard wrong.

I'll still baby it, but I'll be keeping her around. Its a good truck, just licking my wounds.

If you have higher mileage on it already and aren't having any transmission problems yet, I'd say not to worry about it, just keep it serviced regularly and it should be ok. Usually transmission problems are going to arise pretty quickly if there are going to be any. I've never had a vehicle transmission just decide to stop working all at once, there's always signs beforehand, like slipping, weird shifts, etc.
