Hi all,

I have an 85 B2 4x4 with an A4LD, I'm going to swap it out with an Fm145 (both w/ manual shift t-cases) out of another 85 B2. 2 questions:

1) Are the trans/t-case lengths the same between the manual and the automatic, can I use my nice new driveshafts from the automatic w/ the manual???

2) Are the ring and pinion ratios the same between the manual and automatic, and if so, what ratios did they come with?

Thanks for the help.

the ring and pinion are in the rear and front axles , so that does not make a difference in the swap

Yeah I know, I guess what I'm asking is if the axle ratio options are the same or different between the manual and automatic. Will the 2.8 be more gutless with the manual behind it because of the different trans and axle gearing, or should I consider also swapping the axles from the donor rig when I do the swap?

it doesnt matter what the tranny is , i had a 96 with a manusl and 3.73 , now i have a 2000 with an auto and 3.73 , you could combine any trans with any axle that you wanted

That isn't necessarily a good rule in the older vehicles. I haven't seen an auto BII that didn't have 4.10 gears.

The automatic more than likely came with a 4.10 gear ratio. That would be a good setup for the manual transmission.

In all honesty, you are really down grading if you install the FM-145. It is shorter than the A4LD so you will have to move your transmission mount. The FM-145 is also a lot weaker transmission.
