Thinking about doing the 4.0 swap for the B2, but I've got a lot of new parts (master cylinder, radiator, alternator, etc.) on this old motor.

How much stuff will carry over to a 4.0 and is there anything else I will need besides doing wiring/wiring harness?

Here is a writeup I did. Since yours has the earlier dash, it will either need to be swapped out, or you'll have to do a lot of splicing. If you have any questions let me know. Or post here, there are several people on here that have done it and can help.

The master cylinder is the the same for the clutch. You'll want the bigger radiatorjust because its better. Alt won't because of the pulley.

Just remember,it'll all be worth it in the end.

yeah, you can do the 4.0 swap w/ your dash tho. i did, just some wiring to do. not to hard...

as far as the radiator goes-- you'll want the 4.0 one.
alternator won't work either. 2.9 is v-belt and the alternator is a lot weaker... not ideal IMO even if it would bolt up.

the ideal way to do it, is find a donor first gen explorer. that way you have radiator, engine, trans, t/case, wiring, dash, door panels, etc..

Get yourself some EVTM, Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual. for the BII and what ever motor you are pulling from.
EVTMs makes the job a piece if cake. ebay is a good place to looks for them.

I know people say there is lots of splicing and the tach does not work.
my tach is on the dot, i check it with a digital tach.
What i did was make adapters, i went to pull apart and got the male, female parts the harness and solder them together.
So there is no cutting on ether end. and it pretty much looks factory under the hood, i always like things to look clean and neat.
if you need pics i can send them to you.
