Here is what the tag states on my 1990 Bronco II

8 SL 7375 9L06
Is this an eight inch at 7.375 to 1 ?"

B2s never came with an 8.8 from the factory.

Didn't come with an 8" either.

Most axles have 2 tags. Looks like you were looking at the wrong one.

What I an make out from any of those numbers might be 7375 translated to 3.73 7.5 gear ( the first 3 being hidden under the mounting bolt). Other numbers just assembly numbers.
