This may be posted somewere but I haven't found it. Here it goes: I was intersted in swapping my 7.5 3.08 for an axle with 3.78 ratio to acommodate larger tire/rims(going from 195/75/14 to 235/75/15) but sources here are limited. I found a few good Explorer axles but I don't know anyone that would do the welding. Today I found an 88 7.5 w/3.45 and a 98 7.5 w/3.73. If I go with the 98, what modifications would be involved? Thanks.

The '98 axle will have a larger pinion flange (requiring a mod to your driveshaft), but other than that, it'll bolt right in (it's also 1" wider each side at the wheel flanges than your '84 axle).

I would be looking around for a 4.10 axle myself with that size tire.

need a bigger flange that goes on the drveshaft which will mean a bigger u joint i think.. you can also drill the pinion flange to accept your driveshaft flange, theres a memner on here that done that somewhere
