Greetings all.

This is my first post, so bear with me.

I have an 06 Ranger sport 4x4. It has the 4.0 with 4.10 axles.

I recently had the axles drained at 75K. NOW, I'm hearing squeaking or as others would call "whining" from one of the two axles. I've kinda ruled out brakes but I will check them anyway. I'm also curious as to how long the universal joints in the driveshaft are usually good for? I know I'm pushing 80k, so would that cause the "whinin" sound?

I'm kinda wondering if maybe the oil is low? My imagination is running wild with this. Everytime I think of axle troubles I just see dollar signs.

Thanks in advance

What fluid was put back into it? Low fluid will cause noise, u-joints won't generally whine, and they should be good for quite a bit longer than 80k. I replaced mine at 151k and they didn't have any problems, but I needed to put a new drive flange on the rear end, and as long as the shaft was unbolted, I decided to change the u-joints too.

I would start by checking fluid level, and checking what fluid was put into it.

Oh ya... welcome to TRS

welcome! check to see if your differential is a Limited Slip or not cause your going to have put in the friction modifier additive if they didn't. you can check your axle code from the sticker in your drivers side door and compare it to the chart on the tech library

Well I got up early today and took it to the place I had my axle serviced. They graciously drained them again and put in synthetic for free.

I drove it to work, still squeakin... Drivin home it was quiet for about 20 miles, then it started up squeakin again. So, in the morning I'm gonna take it to a local place (since its really dang cold and my apt. complex won't let me tear into it) and have the back brakes checked out. Maybe a pin has come undone or something allowing the shoe to ride against the inside of the drum?

Brakes are good... Oil level is good.

Hmm... Might just be a grain of sand or salt somewhere it shouldn't be. Been quite a harsh winter in these parts...

Hope with warmer weather it goes away or works out.
