Somebody who knows more than me about axles...
Can you tell me what would be under this truck? My uncle who was crusing the auction lot sent me this pic. F250 i'm pretty sure

that would be a sterling 10.25, the front will be a leaf sprung ttb d44 most likely, or it could be upfront, that d50 ttb crap that ford deecided to put up front on some of them

Sterling 10.25....
so they made those in single and dually applications? Isn't that what one of the other guys is useing on his dually project?

ya, in the 80's ford started replacing the d60 in the back on f-250's with the sterling, they were available in SRW and DRW applications. the sterling is a very good rear, it is a full floater and i have heard of VERY few failures

actually....lookin at that i dont see the rear hubs??? looks like a semi floater axler back there.....i just realized this when i was talkin about the sterling bein a FF....

among furter incestigation it seems to be a d60sf......which is odd becuase that shouldnt be the original axle in that truck

yep, like i said, in those years the only way to get a solid axle was in a d60 in a f-350, everythin else was ttb leafsprung crap on the f-250

did it?? i was not aware of that, i thought all sterling back rears were ff's

if thats the case the tech library needs updated cause it doesnt list a option for a semi floater sterling

Yup 10.25's come in semi too. My buddy has one in his wheelin rig.

well ill be damn, i never seen a semi floater sterling, and ive worked on ALOT of trucks lol, but ya, ull learn something new on this site everyday, then we need to have jim update the info on the sterling in the tech section under the axle guide

Dont think the 10.25 does. But the 9.75 Sterling is semifloat.

now i know there is a 9.75 sterling thats the semifloater.....seems we got confilicting info, wheres dude the ford man when u need him

The Sterling 10.25 came in semi-float in that era, like '86 to '97. It has 14 cover bolts I think.

The Sterling 9.75 came in 5.4 Expeditions, Navigators and then F150s later from '97 and has 12 cover bolts.
