The flip kit U-brackets will not require you to WELD ON NEW PERCHES! The axle will not fall off and it will not have messed up pinion angles.
Stop telling him to get new perches when he can spend less than $40 to safely, quickly, and accurately lower his axle 4~4.5" by flipping the axle with the U brackets that I've been using happily for nearly a year.

You CAN flip the axle using a flip-kit
You CAN flip the axle by removing the original perches & re-welding them to accept the new location
