axel advice

Don't discredit the axles you have under there now... The D35 is a good axle that will handle 35" tires no problem (it's about 95% of the strength of a D44). Your rear 7.5" isn't bad either, but I wouldn't run bigger than a 33 on it (the 8.8" is dirt-simple to swap in and would handle even 37" tires no problem).
I also agree, you should figure out what size tires you ultimately want to run and then pic a gear ratio to suit them.

The 3.0L isn't a bad engine IF it can spin enough RPM to make it's power.
There are suggested gear ratios for different size tires if you look in the FAQ post right at the top of the forum (you can also find this info in the Tech Library too).

ok well i finially got to the junk yard today and picked up a rear axle from an 01 ranger with 410 gears for 90 bucks only thing that i can find is wong is one of the drums is locked... plus it only had 68,000 miles on it... i thought it was a good buy considering im on budget, i guess my question now is is that rear axle a LS or open? its code is S33OE (TOP) 4 10 88 1A10 (BOTTOM) im purtty sure its open, ill have to get a locker for it i suppose. im prolly gunna have a hell of a time tracking down a TTB with 4.10's... and correct me if im wong but the D35 on my truck is a reverse R&P right?

Unless there's a letter "L" in between the 4 and the 10 of '4.10' on the tag, it's open diff. Probably better anyway if you want to drop a lunchbox locker into it, there are more available for the open carrier.

Yes, your D35 is Reverse.

Well the ttb I would guess that most 4x4 would come with 4.10 gears. the two trucks I had that were 4x4 had 4.10 one was a 87 and the other was a 04. So I know they are out there. good luck.

Also Keep in mind for your 9'' swap that sometimes the speedo and shift points are ran of the tone ring in the diff.

4.10 D35s (TTB) are only found in some '90-'92 4cyl and 2.9L (w/auto) trucks.

hym... i dident know that lol... ill keep my eye out for those, maybe ill look for a d44 also prolly have more luck with finding 410's , what makes and years were close to the length of the d35 ttb and come standard with disc breaks(not sure if they even did)?, im not an experenced welder so shortning the axle isnt an option for me.

Yeah, I would look for an Early Bronco D44 if you want to stay around the width your truck is at now. They do come with 4.10s and disc brakes, and are an easy swap. A TTB D44 is a little more work.

well i guess next question is what makes and years to look for, for the d44 TTB with a greater chance of 4.10's

For my TTB swap I'm kinda working on. I bought the D50 diff. to put in my d44 housing. to make a D50/44 hybrid. found it a lot easier to get the diff out f250 with the 4.10 gears then a bronco with the 4.10 gears. Just a heads up most broncos came with 3.50 and I would think that most trucks came with the 3.50 gears also.

so i started work on the 8.8 rear today and it occred to me the the RABS sensor might be shot wont know until i instal it.., i wondering if i can just swap the sensors from the 7.5 to the 8.8 keep in mind that the 7.5 is a 94 and the 8.8 is an 01, my thoughts are it wont cause the 8.8 is bigger... lmme know ur thoughts! thanks .

sensor should be the same, all it's doing is counting how fast the teeth go by, given the effectiveness of the RABS (not very), it isn't going to matter...

i made some calls today and found that axle for $350 out of a '90 ranger, is that price right and also is that axle shorter then my d35? and if so can i just use wheel spacers?
