hey ya'll with them avm hubs, it says that the axle-shafts shouldn't move with the wheels, but if i engaged the 4wheel drive, does that mean i'd just be shooting blanks? i deal with a lot of spotty black ice in the winter and the quick engaging 4x4 saved my a$$ a few times, i would lose that saving grace if i changed the hubs wouldn't i? i DEAL with the automatic hubs sometimes sticking on, and all that fun stuff so options would be nice. would i be better off replaceing the autohubs or switching over?

If the weather is supposed to be dicey I leave my hubs locked in and cruise in 2wd. If I need 4x4 it is a lever yank away, yours truck would be the same but probably with a knob rather than a lever.

Be sure you are not spinning your rear tires when you engage the 4x4, it will slam into 4x4 and eventually break something.

I do the same, My hubs are locked in all winter long. The only time I unlock them is if I am getting on the e-way and it is dry.

allright, thats what i was thinking. Running with them locked on the asphalt wont damage the drivetrain will it, or will it not because the front diff doesn't ave a locker in it(As far as i know)

No, won't hurt a thing. Some people claim it hurts gas mileage but, I haven't seen it proven.

You have CV joints, so it is better for your truck than mine. With much the same setup the newer ones are locked in full time.

allright, my dad and i are going to do a vacuum test on the hubs this weekend to see where the fault is lying, but ultimately, itll end up with new hubs for peace of mind thanks ya'll
