Automotive technology you miss.

If a kid even thinks about standing in the middle seat of an old square body GM while driving down the road the parent would probably get arrested these days... was normal when I was a kid...

You guys can keep your carburetors and points, I think the '67 Mustang my mom has will eventually get the fuel injection system out of the '97 Mountaineer I have stashed away... not sure on the C4 or switch to a 4R70W but I'm leaning toward 4R70W... There's a LOT out of the new cars that I could do away with, but fuel injection ain't one of them... some engines had a bad design (I've heard multiple people with issues on 460's) but the good ones are good to have around...

I wanted to share in response to these ear led to my finding myself in a '93 Ranger. I don't care how reliable automatic transmissions are or ever will be. My left foot gets bored in an automatic, and starts stomping the floor, looking for a clutch every time I let my guard down. And if I'm lucky, it doesn't find a pedal. No, I'm too used to a stick, even if you ignore my control-freak issues. Besides, automatic transmissions just feel lazy to me. Too much modern automotive design seems intended to divorce the driver's senses from the road, which takes the fun out of driving.

Dude.

Right there with you. I four wheel skid my F350 once a week over pushing the clutch.

Another converted...

I always fixed the wheel bolt thing with the proper sized drill bit and some Porsche wheel studs and nuts. I use the have a bucket full of them. I always stayed away from the screw in wheel studs... I've seen a couple disasters.

Gump (and new weirdo),

Air cooled 911.

Does one need any more reason to be a VW fan?

Except audi. Screw those guys.

The 911 pretty much does it... Speedster... 356 maybe even just a Karmann Ghia...

The air cooled ones actually are pretty neat. Neat to marvel over and look at, pretty far down on my wish list though.

My brother had a ‘68 Bug with a ‘73 Super Beetle 1600 in it. It was like a go cart, fun but not particularly fast. It did enough gumption to at least feel like it was trying though.

gumption is good

Dang VW guys... surprised you didn't say silly luggage compartment where the engine should be and splined rear brake drums.
I proudly admit that I prefer my engines mounted in the back, where God intended.

Regarding lug bolts, I may not have ever really had a problem with them (or especially loved them), but when a friend of mine fashioned a chess set out of lifters, hand brake ratchets and spark plugs, those 16 lug bolts made awesome pawns.

...the other air cooled weirdo. ?
*blush*

Wow… that is pretty cool stuff Volkshook.

I suddenly what a chess set.

Dave swore, when he was making this set, that he would never make a second. He's made three or four. They make great raffle prizes at the annual Wasatch Classic all-VW show.

Been awhile since I've played chess... is the distributer drive the King or Queen?

Whichever the players prefer, I suppose :) Personally, I think it looks more queen than king, though.
