I think the Escort also had the horn on the turn signal stalk from '81 to '83(ish). I suspect that all Fords in the early 80's did, but I don't know for sure.

It's been so long since I owned my P.O.S. '81 Mercury Lynx (Ford Escort), that I can't remember if the horn was on the steering wheel or on the stalk. I absolutely hated that car and got rid of it about a year after I bought it.

My Aunt had an 81 Escort. had the horn on the turn signal, and Grandpa's 83 Ranger Diesel also had that feature.

My 83 Ranger had the stalk horn too. Very weird...

I'd love to know why Ford did that. I can understand the early 90's Fords moving the horn buttons to the spokes of the wheel when they first started installing airbags. But putting it on the signal light switch?

It was a Euro thing. Apparently, from what I have been told, that was how it was done in Europe at the time, and Ford thought it was going to catch on here, so they tried to do it, and being Americans, we hated it.

Aparently you've never been to the philly zoo...

That explains it on the Escort, since the Escort was based on a European car of the same name. And, since the Ranger was the next vehicle Ford introduced...... Oh, maybe the LTD (Fox body) came out the same year. I wonder if it started with the horn on the signal light switch, too.
