Automatic Four Wheel Drive Control Module

There's always that one in 50... Looks like you got to be it lol.
Fortunately the OP's seems to have failed it's self-test so that at least makes it a lot easier.

I always seem to get the strange problems to solve. There is always the 1% failure.

I guess I am a part of that small percent too because I have checked everything and the control module is the only thing doesn't check out. So hopefully I can find a control module at a salvage yard and I can plug it into my bronco ii and see if it works before I buy it.

I would suggest pitching the push button. I have a guy here in Kansas City that builds a conversion kit for these to eleminate the probalematic push button crap. If you would like more info on it pm me and i can get you his contact info.

The same 4x4 module is used in the Explorer up to 1995.They're locatated in the left rear cargo panel. The Bronco2s 8 wire plug that plugs into the module gets brittle and the wires will pull out and shut the 4x4 system off. I just filled the top portion of the plug head with silicone to keep the wires in place and haven't had a problem since.

Thanks for the help! I checked the plugs and they looked good. I don't think it is the plugs because the 4x4 doesn't ever shut completely off it just doesn't get the signal the the shift motor and transfer case is in 4 wheel so it takes it back into 2 wheel. It inly does this sometimes.
