I just purchased a 99 ranger xlt 4x4 3.0. I did the maintance changed the fluid and filter no excessive metal in the pan. All u-joints seem fine and tight rear end fluid changed. The trans shifts hard and when you start or stop it and it feels like the suspension clunks forward or rearward. I was thinking it might be the transmission mount. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreaciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if the 99 models were adaptive or not, but if so, you might consider unplugging the battery for 30+ minutes to reset the clutch volume indicies. That will sometimes help harsh shifts as it forces the computer to relearn clutch apply rates. Of course if this problem existed prior to the filter/fluid change, this process probably won't help.
