hello new to the ranger station and already loving it. but have a question to all you gear heads out there. i have a 2000 ranger with a 3.0 and ive had to replace my auto trans 3 times in the past year and gunna be putting a manual trans. in it i have a donor 98 ranger with a manual trans ive got both trannys out and about to put the manual trans in i know i need the clutch and pedals im good with all that but the wiring is what im scared of. im pretty sure the plugs coming off the trans is the same. but what about the neutral safety switch and all that good stuff. ill keep you all posted on my findings. hopefully this will come in handy to anyone doing this. I also am going to have a 3.0 ranger auto trans with a rebuild on it because i boutght it out of a salvage yard with a lifetime warranty and plan on sending it back to get rebuit and sell it i bought it about a year ago and just sick of shitty auto for how bad i push em in the trails.

I dont know about the 00's but on the 98 trans there is no speed sensor on it. the speed sensors on the 98's were on the rear axel. the only plug on the 98 is the reverse light sensor.

OK I'm back you have to change engine wiring harness to get the right trans. Plug for stick and change the comp. I suggest getting a new slave cylinder and quick disconnect hose in NY where I live its brutal getting that hose to come apart. You will also need to get a pilot bearing I spent 50 on slave cylinder. And 10 on pilot bearing, 80 for the hose I quess it beats fixing my auto again. Like I said its easier to change this all out b4 installing Cuz now I gotta take the tranny out Agian to fix leaking slave cylinder. replace clutch as needed and pressure plate. So all in all from your donor truck you will need the trans, flywheel, flex plate, wiring harness, cam sensor on back of block, o2 sensors, radiator or block cooler lines, clutch pedal assembly, clutch resevoir, starter and starter riring or just cut and splice yellow wire for correct end, also the floor plate under the carpet . If i think of anymore ill add on later. Hope this helps o2 sensors and cam sensor have different plugs from 98 to OO. O and the interior trim around the shifter so it looks professional

Pretty sure I read somewhere that the driveshaft lengths or the yokes on the driveshaft were different between the manual and auto trans as well.

auto to m50dr1 2wd or 4wd conversion? the 4wd they are the same length if im not mistaken. 2wd the tailshaft depending on the the auto hes swapping from may be shorter, so the driveshaft may need to be obtained from the donor truck as well.
