I have an 2001 ford ranger auto trans with od. My tranmission does fine till I attemp to pass a car then when passing gear kicks in most of the time my engine just revs like I had shift it into neatral. Any ideas what is going on with it. Thanks for any help.

If you have a hard time going into reverse and first gear its need rebuilding, as far the downshifting its may just need to adjust the pressure

Have you done all the preventive maint you can do first off. Pull the pan and check for metal shavings in the bottom of the pan. Put a new oil filter in and drain the torque converter. Then fill it with fluid and see how it does. Oh yea it wouldnt hurt to flush out the tranny cooler also. Depending on your tranny it could be a computer issue?
