ok so have you ever gotten one of those phones calls that wakes you up to bad news? well the tranny shop called me and it wasnt good...my a4ld is not fixable needs a whole rebuild. so i went to junk yard to see if they had a tranny they have one for 400 bucks i could pick up ready to go...wondering if i could instead of getting an auto maybe switch to a manual...how hard would it be?

you need the bracket for the pedal, the slave setup, and the tranny of course

im probably forgetting something but i always do, someone else should chime in

not extremely difficult. depends on what you are comfortable with. i've done the switch on my truck, and it wasnt bad at all. obviously you need the transmission, you also need the clutch/brake pedal bracket, slave cyl and hose, shift boot and floor plate, and the proper wiring and computer. you may also need the proper t-case shifter, depending on how your truck is setup. its best if you have a donor vehicle but its not absolutely necessary. if you have an a4ld now, you can use a m50d (preferred) or an fm146 to replace it. they are all the same length so they use the same driveshafts. the wiring for the clutch switch should already be there, under the dash. the wiring for the back up lights and neutral switch you may have to tackle on your own. i used part of an old harness and spliced it into the harness in the truck. this has been covered more than once so you should be able to dig up some decent info if you do a quick search.

well so basically it would just be easier and cheaper to stick with an automatic tranny. i always wanted a stick but i guess its more expensive. i plan on putting on a 3'' body lift 32s then another 2'' susp lift

You CAN do the auto to manual swap for less than $600 if you look for parts. 2 of the 3 swaps I did were less than $600.

It isn't all that hard. It can be done in a day if you have the proper tools and a good person to help you.

You will need:
- PCM
- Transmission
- clutch/brake pedal assembly
- floor pan
- shift boot
- manual starter
- manual wiring harness
- clutch
- flywheel
- master cylinder
- slave cylinder
- clutch hydraulic hose
- CPP

I did the same exact truck by myself for about $600 total which included the upgrade to 10" dia. clutch and better starter. I used my existing auto computer and wired the interlock through the neutral safety on the trans rather than at the clutch pedal which works great for me.There is a 5 wire plug into the trans; cut it and 2 go to reverse lights, 2 to neutral safety or clutch interlock, and the other is ignored.

I bought a light duty trans lift for $60.00 off Ebay which made the whole job safer and easier to do alone. The truck was on it's third auto trans when it went to stick. You will never regret the switch.:headbang:

see i dont know much about transmissions. all i know is i took this one out with a freind took it to a shop and now im gonna get another and put it in
