Auto Shifter Problem

The shifter is broken on my 98 ranger. It's a 2.3L auto. I had the idea to replace it with acenter console shifter since th junkyards around don't have alot of rangers and I dont have alot of money. Is this something that can be pulled off or should I bite the bullet and buy a new shifter mechanism from a dealer. I've got a friend that says it's not gonna beeasy and that i'll have to get exact parts or it wont work, but it kinda sounds more like he thinks he'll get roped into helping if I do find the shifter. Any hought or help would be much appreciated.

not to argue with you or anything but unless you did a swap all 1998-2000 rangers had the 2.5 4 cyl. Maybe with light mods a recent model exploder center shifter would work

its all good man!!! I was thinking a mustang setup might work for you as well. Maybe also swap in a steering column from a manual Ranger! Im excited to see this idea turn into a real project

If and when I get this project off the ground i'll post pics. Nothing like the mods I've seen here but it's something I think would be kinda cool.

Awesome keep in touch. BTW I bet money your truck was originally a fleet truck. that seems to be the story behind all the white 4 cyl automatics. How do I know? My carfax

The mustang shifter would would def work if you had the t-5 however I dont know about the A4, I would try the exploder idea as mentioned above. You might even also find a center console shifter from a ford aerostar, they will be an exact fit you will just have to shorten the shifter handle.
