Audio geek? I got a summer project you may want to watch!

Finally got the motivation on lunch break today to dick around with my wiring and figured out why my HU wouldn't boot up. Fixed the wiring problem when I got home and mounted it back up. Too bad my unit has a reboot failure that won't go away even when I get rid of the corrupted files in testmode. Havent had a radio since february 2009.....

not trying to talk shit but you seem like you know your audio pretty damn good. i seen you had a compacitor. everyone i talk to says compacitors do nothing and on a car audio forum they all talked shit on me cuz i had one. just curious on your thoughts.

they don't do nothing... it's just that often people use them before upgrading the big 3, or with crap components. like lets just throw in a capacitor because it glows, and looks like a small bomb.

they are physically (and by that i mean according to physics) very useful in a well planned out system.

lol well they are a bomb, I handle those things like a grenade, they just smooth things out a bit so my battery doesnt get hit with a spike because TI let the beat build.

whoever says you don't need a capacitor for high powered audio systems is a moron. Anyone see headlights dimming??? Thats your amp trying to pull more current than is readily available from your electrical system. the capacitor STORES electricity and releases it as needed (when your electrical system can't provide enough, the cap delivers).

Basically you guys are saying that we don't need water towers for a water supply, that the water pumps alone (that fill the towers) is suffice to fit the demands of a city.

I built my radio, has a pop-out cd player, working on a laptop monitor dvd player =)

After updating the firmware on my head unit i can finally listen to the system I spent so much time building!

So I never actually posted pics of the sub box inside the car. The paint is a little scratched on the box so sometime I'm either going to have to paint it a bit or carpet it.

This is the radio mounted and working finally.

Tweeter position with the door fully back on.

This is the wooden bracket I made to the back of the cab. Perfectly lined up to the existing screw mounts for the mesh cargo pocket.

And this is the profile of the woofers against the back of the cab.

She's not the prettiest thing but everything in it is solid. Sound is crystal clear and the bass shakes the mud off the truck tailgating behind me.

Wish I'd noticed a long time ago that you were having trouble with your AVIC F series. I updated my wife's F90 to 3.0 last summer and reflashed it just a couple of months ago to repair a corruption. Somewhere around here I've got a very condensed set of instructions for the repairs that make it a lot easier to follow than some of the documentation floating around the Avic forums.

yeah the avic 411 forums were very little help. I went to the pioneer website, downloaded the free firmware updates, and installed it. Works fine now. I need to update a few more things on it, but for the moment I'm happy it plays.

Which firmware update are they providing for free now? I didn't mean to slam the avic forums too much as I wouldn't have found the info otherwise, but the instructions posted by some of the other users were far from clear and concise.

there is one that has all updates to 2.06 and one thats update 2.08. Both of those a free. Just put them on an sd card.

Oh, gotcha. Find a way to update to 3.0 - the interface is dramatically smother than the 2.x versions. I'll try to find the info and post it here tomorrow if possible. Should have it floating around here somewhere.

You kind of contradicted yourself there bud.....capicitors are just covering up your weak electrical. The Big3 upgrade helps out tremendously. If this doesnt fixx your dimming issues then a nice bigger abttery upfront is needed. Then from there if issues continue a 2nd battery and/or biggery alt is needed. Personally i have stock alt, walmart battery upfront, 2 Kinetik hc1400s in the back, and 1/0 wire for Big 3 and 2 runs to the rear batts. I have no dmming issues and im pushing around 2k watts rms.
