Attempting a swap on 92' Super Cab

Well i just come inside from playing in the shop. i thought i would clean up a few things and decided to clean up my oil pan. all i can say is it's a good thing i decided to completely tear it down. there was go much gunk in one corner of it, it was rediculous. gonna get the block bored .030 over and throw some hi perf parts at it and hopefully breathe some new life into this thing. i know the engine wasn't what i was told it was, but i still have faith that this thing can be just as good, hopefully better. it's gonna set me back a little bit more in the wallet, but this is what i want. if it wasn't for a forum like this with so much information and so many helpful people, none of this would be possible for me. sure, i can take the truck somewhere and get somebody to do all the work for me, but i wouldn't have pride in it. i like to do things myself because it gives me a greater feeling of accomplishment when its done. thanks guys for taking the time to help a novice build something great.

Just make sure you choose your pistons wisely. You don't want what was in there. You're looking for flat tops with valve reliefs with a pin height close to 1.610-1.620 as possible to achieve a zero deck clearance. Not all flat top-valve relief 302 pistons are the same pin height, this is why I say to pay attention. They vary from 1.585 to 1.620.

wheres the cheapest place to get my engine kit from? tryin to save as much as possible.

sorry to jump in to your thread fastford, but I am doing my resurch for my v8 swap and I am out looking for a motor an I see that some people dont the crown vic is the way to go if you are planning to pull as much horse power as possible out of it. so my question, is the crown vic not the way to go fo horse power? should I be only looking for a stang motor?

at this point in time. when considering a sbf, it dont really matter.

finding a low mile ho-94 up van/sploder v8 is not the easiest thing to do.

a good eagle setup and gt40 heads or any edelbock/holley system makes great power. not a bad setup.

ploppin on a good intake and carb on a 200 dollar c/v engine with a duraspark setup sounds great and easy and will work out fine on a tight low mile c/v engine, but dont expect 14's out of it.

If you're going to rebuild it and buy aftermarket heads, the Vic/Lincoln/Merc 5.0's are a great bargain. The block, crank and rods are the same as the HO's. The 87-97 pickup/van 5.0 motors are often overlooked as well, these have the same block, crank, rods and heads as the HO's. The cams in the 94-97's are the same grind used in the Exploder V8. Good mild street grind with a carb. Just a tad less cam than the HO's had.

totally agree with rockers and springs the later truck/van do work well with 4 bbl.

i have seen gt40's (3 bar) on quite a few vans now pulled from the yard, 5.0 and 351. so there was definitely quite a few that rolled off the line with those heads. i find myself always looking real careful now.

the end result is going to to be a rebuild, I am going to be building a prerunner caged front to back so I want to get the motor and tranny and get all wired up and in running order then down the road get it fully rebuilt.

summit racing, its right up the street(about 40 miles lol), i always try to find an excuse to go up there

Right. The roller 5.0 I have in mine now ran great with a Ford A321 topped with a Holley 570. The F4TE cam, helped by a set of 1.7 Cobra rockers, made a great combination for a daily driver. I removed all this to sell the truck and replaced it all with a 2 bbl, Holley 500 and stock stamped steel rockers. The difference is a noticeable drop in power and ease of starting.

Really? I have bought about 10 of the GT40 engines and at least 2 dozen sets of GT40 & "P" heads combined and I have never found a single van with GT40's or ever seen a 351 with GT40's on it. I know that alot of the GT40 heads came with the 1/2" bolt holes but still never seen them on a 351 from the factory. Next time you see one in the wrecking yard take a picture of it as I would like to see it. I am at the wrecking yards every week and some times many time a week and I have seen and found things that you would never would have thought of looking for on such vehicals for, so I know what you are saying. I seen one time a chevy truck with a carbed small block with this adapter on the intake that had two carbs on it. One was a stock GM two barrel and the other was a motorcycle carb :icon_confused:. It looked like it was used for maybe like a cruse control to get better fuel milage on the freeway. It used a pull cable to control the MC carb. Like you would see on a lawn mower. Weird.

I'd bet those GT40 equipped vans were 96-97's. Ford also made a few sets of O.E. Aluminum GT40 heads that ended up in Exploders..

There was a member here or on the RPS site that had pics of the aluminum GT40 heads off an Exploder. You laugh, but Ford has always injected off the wall parts into the assembly line.
