Armrest repair!!

Hey, I just need to know what length bolt and size thread to fix my 60/40 counsole. Anyone have any idea on what the bolt size is??

Just put mine in. :) :) Its funny how the crack wasn't a huge problem but now that it's fixed my truck seems like it might even run better now. Runs good anyways by the way.

For me, it's nice not to cringe then yell at the passenger for putting at weight on it! hahaha! I like having my elbow on the armrest and my hand on the shifter rollin' through the gears again!!

Posting up a new thread may get you better and more answers. My only thought, remove the console, take existing bolts to hardware store and match 'em up?

Installed and far stronger structurally than the original brittle plastic. Twice as heavy as before and the bolts are snugged to the point that it will stay in place at any point in the travel but still easy to one-hand into position. Again, thanks for turning us on to to this very effective fix! Super happy!:yahoo:

Sweet!!!

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THIS!!!:yahoo:

Soooooo many of us "need" this fix! I am ordering mine right now!

It doesn't seem to matter how nice the truck is, this thing is ALWAYS broken! LOL

Thanks again!:icon_thumby:

Cheers,

I'm really happy with my armrest now. Had to take it out and put longer bolts in it though. The ones they sent with it were just a tad too short for the lock nuts to engage and stay tight. So if you're thinking about installing this piece, pick up some 1 inch or longer, 7/16 bolts. Save yourself some hassle

otherwise great fix.

i had to do the same thing but still worth the trouble :icon_thumby:

Yup! Went the the hardware store for some 1 1/2" 7/16ths to do a proper job of it but well worth the extra trip. Also sprung for lock washers and a couple extra nuts for extra snugness and peace of mind.

I know this thread was long dead, but I am bumping it up in case anyone else has the "sport" buckets and a jacked up POS armrest. Why they used plastic for something bound to take some weight at times is beyond me.

The repair part the OP used (ARM100 @ rockauto.com) works awesome. Not as pretty as the factory piece on the back but solid as can be and only a 5 minute install. Great part and a good find.

Well I think the armrest in my truck has been broken since about a month after I rolled it off the lot, and has been an annoyance ever since. About a week ago I found out about an after market replacement for the plastic piece that breaks, Rockauto has them for $40 part# arm100.

wow, mine cracked in exactly the same spot as yours. was gonna take it to the stealership today for a warranty claim. i wasnt too excited about it since i wasnt sure it would be covered, and i didnt buy my truck there so you always get the cold shoulder in those situations. i might go this route. a plastic one will just break again anyway the way im always leaning on it

Absolutely get this part and install it. Great fix and far better than the original plastic. Do yourself a favor and go to the hardware store for longer bolts (noted above) and a couple extra nuts for locking and snugging everything up. Been seven months now since I bought and installed this critter and couldn't be happier. Again, props and many thanks to the OP! Given how common a problem this is for Rangers with buckets, this thread deserves stickification.

I've had mine in for 9 months now and it's aboslutely worth the green!!!! Even if your stock pretty plastic one is still holding up 'okay', you should DOOOOOOO IT!!!

I'll eventually get my pics and revisions posted up here.

I never knew those kits existed! I see busted ones here at the dealership all the time and nobody ever replaces them cuz they're so damned expensive. Maybe I'll let the service manager know about this. Thanks for all the info!

Just performed this repair on my dad's 2002 Ranger. A couple thoughts...

1. The piece is well made.
2. I ended up re-using the stock black screws. The included silver screws were too small.
3. Not sure why the kit didn't include a piece of wood (or firm padding) to go in between the repair piece and the bottom of the armrest cushing. My dad's armrest was broken in 2 places...one was fixed by the metal repair piece...the other was the plastic piece directly underneath the armrest padding. We inserted a piece of 3/4" plywood to stiffen the structure.
4. Not sure why the directions didn't have some details on how to get the pin out. Ours didn't want to come out easily. We ended up cutting the head off of one of the sides of the pin after breaking the old armrest support off.

PERFECT ! I ordered one to repair my '04. Now if they only made the same thing for my '03 F-150.
Has anyone seen such a part available? Rockauto does not have this and I would think this would be a popular item.
Same problem....While climbing into the truck, it is common to lean on the console.
