Are zero post users supposed to be able to private message?

Spam & New User Group

Members have complained about getting spam in their private messages from new users. I created a new user group called 'Forum Member'. All of the members were in a group called 'Registered'. After making 10 posts, the user is automatically promoted from the user group 'Registered' to the user...

That's why I posted, cause I was sure that since a month ago they weren't supposed to be able to.. (but to lazy to go dig up gump's thread on my own... I have a hell of a time finding common stuff but can dig up hidden easy)

So I have a thought (since I got a 2nd one in the middle of the night from a 4 post user that looks about the same)... can we make it so new users can't even see classified until post #10. I haven't gotten any weird PM's until now, but the instant I put up a classified, it was 2 right away.

I have seen other forums where new users can see the classified banner, but when they click on it, they get a message stating that they must meet the minimum post number before entry to the classifieds is allowed.

One possibility is that I’ve noticed that there are registered users that have never posted anything and have been here awhile, and when you look at their profile and IP, it looks like spam, but they were here before the more recent changes. Perhaps it’s those accounts still sending the PMs but unfortunately there’s not much of an easy way to find those that I’ve come up with so far other than watch for one to stick their head up.

Believe me guys, I know how to spot a fake - it wasn't looking for help on that end. It was my questioning if the "No PM till 10 posts" changes that happened early Dec was working or not. I'm an IT guy, I am now at the point of trying to stop my 70+ yr old mom from getting scammed or her 90+ yr old boyfriend - which seems to be an hourly task now not just a daily.
