I picked up my 97 lowered ranger today, and it needs a windshield and passenger glass. So i figured i would go to a closeby junkyard, not the one i usually go to, but i know they have what i need. So i walk around the junkyard a bit and find a 97 ranger with a good windshield and passenger glass. I walk in the office to ask how much for the windsheild and passenger glass and he drops the bomb. 180 for the windshield and about 80 for the passenger glass. I told him i could go buy a NEW windshield for that price, and i walked out:damnit1::buttkick:, fuming, i went home and looked online to see how much new windshields cost....wat a surprise....a local shop will even INSTALL the windshield, supply a new rubber sealer, and of course the glass, for about the same price. So needless to say im not going to pay that much for a junkyard windshield, when i could get a new one for the same price....lol im only 17 im not made of money

you want pics of a windsheild? the truck i bought is my profile pic if ur wondering

What junkyard wanted the outrageous price? I would get new, that way its got a warranty and everything.

Here's the funny thing. There is a U pull it yard about 70 miles north of you. You go in there, find your windshield, then pay the guy at the counter. They bring the vehicle up front and someone removes the windshield for you. All for $40. As for the passenger glass the price is so low that I wouldn't even worry about the money missing from my wallet. There is also another one a little farther north than that which has similar prices but doesn't pull windshields for you.

Yea Harry u-pull it right? i have been wanting to go there for awhile now, just havent gotten the time to go. Thanks for reminding me of that place, i might just go there instead :icon_thumby:
BTW heres the links of my lowered ranger i bought http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/photoplog/index.php?n=821

Cost me $186 for a brand new windsheild and a 1 years replacement warrenty that covers anything.

damn. you have to have very easy going parents to just go and buy these trucks or they undestand when its a good buy. lol my dad tells me i cant have another project truck. im tring to ge an exploder now.

I just had my Zuki done through insurance...cost me nothing...and they even threw in a free "rain repellant"...but I'd pass on that in the future...wipers squeaked all the time...sounded like a loon every time I turned on my wipers...

Harry's is the place that will not pull windshields for you. I go there alot though because of how close they are to me. When looking for a windshield the place you would want to check first is Joe's EZ-Pull in New Ringgold. You can look at their price list and get directions from their website. http://www.joesusedautoparts.com/EZPull.html

Junkyards tend to think factory glass is worth its weight in gold. I was quoted $90 for used rear door quarter glass on a 1990s Explorer.

By the way that picture on the front of their website with the overhead view of the yard, that entire lower half is ALL trucks and vans.

When I was a kid my dad took me to the local junkyard to find some parts for his car...back then things like rubber, plastic, glass, or anything not metal were worthless to junkyards...they pretty much gave them away...it's only with the recent DIY craze that the junkyards have been cashing in on our desire to maintain an older vehicle...and it's just a matter of time before they start gouging us for these parts...especially on vehicles that are considered obsolete...
