IknowIknow, V8 forum.

This is for the V8 guys. Both 2wd and 4x4. Couple questions for ya

A) What gears do you run? (3.73)
B) What size tires do you run? (32 x 10.50 TSL radials)
C) Are you happy with the combo? (so far, but I dont have anything better to compare to)
D) Optional, Highway RPM's? (Tachs not hooked up yet.)

Thanks for your time.

I run 3.45`s and 205-70-14`s. On the highway at 100 kmh, the 306 turns somewhere between 2500-2700 rpm. I`m running a C4 3 speed if that helps at all.

4.10
33x12.5 thornbirds
awesome...could use 4.56 if i didnt get these so cheap
dont really know

3.55
38.5" gumbos
very happy

havet attained highways speeds

now keep in mind.....my truck does have a sm435, so this may not mean dick to u.....

3.73s, 34x10.50 LTBs (actually measure more like 32.5)

Needs 4.10s on the street for better acceleration and economy in town.. the gearing is nice for highway driving without overdrive though... Will probably go 4.10s since I can get used and not have to invest as much into these axles.

4.56s would work great on the trail.

A) What gears do you run?......3.55

B) What size tires do you run?......275/60-15

C) Are you happy with the combo? ...Yes...I have run 3.91 and 3.23 so I have higher and lower to compare it too. My truck is 70% for street driving with the occassional drag strip beating. The 3.91's were terrible for cruising IMO...geared way too steep for my liking. The 3.23's were nice with the .450" lift cam but when I went to the .512" it felt like it wanted to drive in 2nd all the time to have the torque into the powerband. So I bumped up to the 3.55's and like them alot. When racing I drop to a 26" ET Street to get a little gear back. I may try 3.73's when I build a 393W.

Maybe you just wanted a Y or N answer here. :dntknw:

D) Optional, Highway RPM's? Right close to 2600RPM at 55mph with the three speed C4.

There is another key variable missing in this discussion.

Does your transmission have overdrive? If so, what is the overdrive ratio? An O/D ratio change from 0.8 to 0.7 is roughly equivalent to going from 4.10's to 3.55's on the highway. A C6, C4 or non O/D 4 speed would turn about 25~40% more R's in high gear than an equivalent transmission with overdrive.

My specs:

Axle Ratio: 4.10
O/D ratio: 0.7
Tire diameter: 31x10.50R15, 30.7" actual
RPM @ 70 MPH = 2250

This combo is a good all around compromise with my mild 5.0L. 3.73 would be OK too.

A. 4.10
B. 255/60/15
C. Yes, had 3.73s and the 4.10s are much better.
D. ~2300@65mph

Trans is a 4R70W with .70 OD

4 speed Toploader, 3.73's, 275/60/15's (28" tall) Great for around town, short hops on the freeway. Wish I had OD for longer freeway trips.
