Are there any Junkyard Posi carriers for 7.5 out there?

Just as it states, just looking for limited slip (not locker) as it will be all street driven and would just like some extra traction in the winter. My vehicle is a 98 Ranger XLT with 2.5L 4cyl. Does anyone know where I can pull what I need? I do NOT want to swap an entire rear end. My truck is just a beater commute truck. Thanks all!!!

easiest thing to do would be go to the junkyard and find another ranger that has an 8.8 with the L/S already installed from the factory and just simply swap it in for your rear end..you could prolly even find one with the same gearing u currently have now..if you look in the Tech library it will tell you where to look in your door jam to determine what rear end you have now..hope this helps.

Well, he did say he didn't want to swap whole axles, but frankly, this is by far the easiest (and cheapest) way to do it.

Otherwise you MIGHT be able to find a L/S-equipped 7.5" in a 3.0L V6 truck, but swapping the unit in is going to require some special tools to make sure you have the backlash set correctly. Also, the preload on the bearings needs to be correct, which may change with the L/S carrier swap.

Would an 8.8 just bolt in? Driveshaft length would be the same as with a 7.5?

it would bolt right in as long as you got one from a ranger...if you get one from an explorer you need to relocate the spring perches and such. search theres tons of thread on this.

Do an 8.8. My truck got a posi. 7.5 from the junkyard by accident when its rear end was swapped due to a spider gear exploding in it. If my dad and I had know at the time about the 8.8 bolting in with no problem, then it would have gotten that. We didn't know about TRS at the time.

Yep, Ranger 8.8 bolts in. Stay with '93 & up 8.8s for the same width as your old axle.
