Are fine-wire spark plugs good for my truck?

92' Ranger XLT with 2.9 V6. It's time to change my spark plugs. For many years. I have used the standard, cheap Motorcraft SP419 plugs. I am planning on installing the SP486 platinum fine-wire plugs because these are supposed to last longer.

Are there any disadvantages in using these fine-wire spark plugs in my old truck? Any reason I would not want to use these?

Dont waste your money. The ignition systems in these trucks arent hot enough for the fancy plugs to make a difference.

These would be a nice upgrade, same plug—platinum instead of copper.

Thanks for the input. I didn't have to pay much more for the fine-wire spark plugs. I got an employee discount.

I was just concerned if that fine wire is too delicate for checking the gap

Should be fine unless your checking gap with a screwdriver... :)

I decided to stick with the OEM spark plugs from 1992. Only now they have a superseded version called SP419A . Less than $10 for six.
