i have a 97 B2300 with the mazda 5 speed, wrecked the tranny the other night,my friend has a bunch of parts rangers and heèll hook me up if hes got one that will fit.he was concerned about the bellhousing and maybe the slave cylinder line position.i know its got to be a 2wd tranny but does the engine size matter, whats compatible, any help would be great cause im on foot for a bit and its cold out!!

I beleive there are different bolt patterns between 4 cylinders and v6s. So i needs to be one off a 4 cylinder.
As far as the slave cylinder and plumbing goes.... I have no idea lol

There are 3 distinct bellhousings for the M5OD; the 4cyl, 3.0 V6, 2.8/2.9/4.0 all use different bellhousings. Also, the 4.0 M5OD has slightly different ratios for the first 3 forward gears.

At any rate, you'll need an M5OD from a 4 cylinder equipped Ranger.

i believe the 2.0 used in the early (83-88) rangers uses the same bellhousing pattern as the 2.3...but at any rate, those motors will have the weaker FM or TK 4 or 5 speeds, which i would avoid. between '88 and '01 the only 4 banger options were the 2.3 and 2.5, either of which will be backed by an M5OD with the appropriate bellhousing for your truck.
