Are all 8.8 gears and lockers interchangable 31 and 28 spline...

I want to know becasue i have the 28 spline and i dont wana buy stuff (gears and locker) twice incase i chose to upgrade to explorer 8.8 later but id like to use my 28 spline for now and see how it holds up.

If the stuff is not interchangable id rather just upgrade the rear now to save money in long term...

Lockers are not interchangeable. Not sure on gears

All ford 8.8" gears will interchange between 31 and 28 spline. The lockers will not, the shafts won't fit in the side gears.

Ring and Pinion are all the same in the 8.8s. The spider gears are not. The lockers are not. The lunchbox lockers are not.

31 spline axles won't fit into a housing that came with 28 spline axles. The housing ends and bearings are smaller on the 28 spline housing.

You can have custom 31 spline shafts made to fit the smaller 28-spline housing ends, but by the time you've paid for that, you probably could have a whole 31 spline 8.8" axle.
