AOD TV Cable

First question is, Do you need to hook up the TV cable on a AOD trans? If so do they make kits to adapt it onto a carb'd motor?

YES. if you dont it will fry within miles.somebody make a cable and such but i can remember who

Lokar makes a cable for it, we're running one on our 89 mustang drag car at work. The trans will not shift right and will slip if the TV cable is not installed and set up properly
(around 28-30psi at an idle in neutral)

use a guage on the TV port and set it to 10 at idle. make sure it rises as soon as you give it gas. if it shifts to late for you then back it down a couple psi. make sure you at least have 4 or 5 psi at idle though. the more you run the better on the trans

Our book that came with our AOD from B&M stated to set it around 30-35 PSI at idle in neutral, and came with instructions on how to make a quick tool out of a bolt to set it up quickly.

Adjusting/checking pressure

1)Attach TV pressure gauge with hose to the TV port of the transmission.

2)Insert tapered end of the tool between the crimped slug and plastic cable fitting that attached to the throttle lever. Push in Cable TV Gauge Tool T86L-70332-A or equivalent forcing the crimped slug away from the plastic fitting make sure gauge block is pushed in as far as it will go. (It idles up the car… don’t know how you would get around buying the tool…)



3) Operate engine until normal operating temperature is reached. The transmission fluid temperature should be approximately 38-72*C (100-150*F) Do not make pressure check if transmission fluid is cold or too hot to the touch

4) Set parking brake and place shift selector in NEUTRAL. With the gauge in place and idling in neutral, the TV pressure should be 241 +/- 34 kPa (35 +/- 5psi) For best transmission function, set the TV pressure as close as possible to 241 kPa (35 psi) using the following procedure.. Note. NEVER check TV pressure in PARK!!!

5) Using a screwdriver or pointing tool pry up the white toggle lever on cable adjuster located immediately behind the throttle body cable mounting bracket. The adjuster preload spring should cause the adjuster slider to move away from the throttle body and TV pressure should increase. NOTE: Toggle lever must be completely up to allow slider to move freely.



6) Do decrease pressure. Push the slider from behind bracket until TV pressure is 241 kPa (35psi) While still holding the slider, push down on toggle lever as far as it will go, locking the slider into position. NOTE: Toggle lever must be in completely down ( lying flat in cable adjuster assembly) to lock properly.



7) Remove gauge tool, allowing cable to return to normal idle position. With engine still idling in NEUTRAL. TV pressure must be at or near 0 (less than 5psi) If not, reinstall gauge block, taking care to avoid hot EGR spacer. Repeat steps 5 & 6 but set pressure to a pressure less than 241 kPa (35 psi) but not less than 207 kPa (30 psi) Remove gauge block and recheck TV pressure to determine if it is at or near 0.

30-35 PSI at idle in neutral. Any less than that and the trans will die a horrible and expensive death.

you're talking about with a 1/4 inch spacer in the cable. when you take the cable out, it should be like stated...around 5 but more than 0. i like to run more. it wont hurt,it will actually be better on it,and it shifts better and downshifts easier
