AOD Operation Question

I am running an AOD behind my 5.0L. It is build quite stout (from Performance Automotive and Transmission Center) with wide ratio gears and a 2500 RPM stall converter.

The problem is, when I am going slow (on or off road), the trans climbs through the gears way too fast. It can be in 3rd at 25 MPH. With a heavier throttle, it will hold the lower gears longer (and shift firm/hard.)

Is there any way to slow the upshifts at partial throttle?

It's probably in the valvebody, as line pressure controls the shifting. You could just manually shift it at low speeds...

And I do sometimes (almost always when off road.)

I am thinking about those times when I don't want to drive the truck, just cruise.

The Transgo shift kit is by far the better of the two kits I've put into AODs. I think that the first one that I used was a B&M [?]. The Transgo kit has a "special/secret high rev valve". If you are wondering about whether or not to use this? USE THIS VALVE. Bleeds off or builds up line pressure to delay upshifting early.
The AOD [if gotten from a V-8] are very good transmissions, a little bigger and heavier though. DO NOT put a V-6 AOD behind a [even stock power] V-8. AODs are cheap, fully hydraulic [works with carb/non FI], stout, OD...
Use the "Locar" TV cable for a quick and easy correct install. Cable shifter requires changing the linkage anyway, so while your in there, chuck a shift kit [transgo w/special/secret high rev valve] into it. Higher stall converter helps, too. The "truck" converters are higher stall, yet retain lockup.
The AOD is known for/does upshift early, can be held/manualy upshifted. This is not advised, though as IIRC this method prematurely wears bands. But, if manualy upshifted [awkward upshift then quick pull back into 1st], can be made to hold a shift to any RPM.
I'd always built my engines for torque, so the lower RPM shifting didn't really affect me.
Only really manualy shifted when a Cobra or Camero pulled up next to my "work truck", then it'd bark in 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
