So on Monday I'm picking up a set of 16x7 cvpi steelies for $30 each to put my summer tires on. I figure steelies are better for summer then winter cause they're less likely to rust. Anyone else using these? I'm putting them on an 03 sport trac.

I guess I'll be the first then, should have them mounted by tomorrow.

Only steel rims will rust, aluminum while it will corrode and look nasty will never rust.

Check them over good, they just had a massive recall on PI rims a year or two ago due to rust weakening them. Would be a bummer to get them put on and have the come apart on you.

The recalled one's won't fit RBVs so that won't be an issue. I actually picked them up, had the tires taken off, painted them, and then had the tire shop refuse to put tires on them until I paid them to clean the beads at $10 each. They said they wouldn't take air if I didn't. Funny since they had air when I got them, but I'm at their mercy. I saved a ton of money by using them and now I'm just saving a little less then everybody else.

they charge u $10 each to just use a wire brush and clean the bead area off real quick?? most shops do that for free.....

+1 we do at discount tire

Do what, charge or don't charge?

It seems the guy who quoted me didn't realize I had bought the tires from their shop so they didn't charge me after all. I guess he was confused because I had bought the tires a few days before I showed up with the wheels to get them mounted.

just the fact that a shop would charge someone todo that.....is plain retarded, i mean unless it had a huge gob of silicone all in the bear area from someone runnin under inflated tires.....but it its jsut a bit of dirt or surface rust, the shop usually never charges
