Anyone Upgraded to LED Headlights for the First Gens?

Yeah the Hellas are very nice, and I'd get them again. However, I prefer the IPFs/ARB at half the price, unfortunately those are difficult to find. And so now I'm trying the Koito on the BII and I must say, having had all three of those brands now, I wonder if the Koito may just be my new favorite. Only time will tell. They're expensive though.

Edit: KOITO, not KOTO.

Koto?
Or
Kioto?

Yes, Koito. Gotta say they have some girth to them. At least compared to the others I've used, and certainly compared to the comparatively cheapo H4 assemblies LMC sells.

I ended up ordering the DOT Hella ones from summit. Has to be better than the Sylvania bulbs I'm running now.

Got the DOT Hellas installed. I'll make sure they're aimed good after dark.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing better.

Going to turn to my dash lights after my new to me radio shows up.

I would like to hear your opinion of the new lights, after you've used them. Thanks.

@RobbieD @Hoosierman

I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow when I make sure they're aimed good.

First impressions is a major upgrade. The brights are much better.

On the Sylvanias I replaced I felt like you could see individual beams from each light, with these new Hella Lens it throws the light much better and has a very good cutoff.

It definitely looked like I had modern lamps with replacement halogens in them.

I think worth the money since you could even go farther and upgrade the HB2 bulb as well.

Very pleased so far.

I wonder what sort of voltage drop the original setup has from the battery, through the system and switch, to the bulbs. On my Jeeps, I have a 2v drop from battery to bulb without a harness, which is significant when it's only 12v to begin with.

I have thought about going with a new harness directly to the battery with a relay. Might be an improvement I consider doing.

But I probably should consider doing some electrical upgrades. I'm still running the factory 2g alternator 🤣

You will *NEVER* see the true difference with new headlights without the harness. You'll get the full, or almost full 12v to the bulbs- YMMV.
