like it says, i'm interested in getting a bit more ass out of my 3.0, nothing huge, just more for passing on the interstate and "playing" with....not drag or any of that. i'm turning 31x10.5 with 3.73 gears and i'd like more power.

suggestions? i'm thinking T3 form a junkyard but i'm not sure what injectors i would need....anyone done this yet?

you could startby regearing to a 4.10. I have a 3.73 and when I went to 30" tires, I think my ratio went from 3.73 to 3.48. I'll be replacing my gears in a couple of weeks. That will be cheaper and might just be what you are looking for.

turboing for cheap??? Not gonna happen, unless you get REALLY CREATIVE!!!!

Let me know when you figure it out. Would love to add to Ranger

the 3.0 loves 4.10 gears, but the 3.0 also grenaded my last 8.8 with 4.56 gears.. you would have to make a custom exhaust manifold or mount the turbo after the y pipe below the truck.. thats what i plan on doing with my 3.0 in the next year, it would be as easy as running the tubing and oil lines, and welding a mounting plate after the y pipe. may only give you 5 pnds of boost but that will be enough

I have buddy that did a twin turbo on his dual exhaust with the turbos at the very end of the exhaust by the tailpipes. Thing fricken screams!!!!

definitly the under truck turbo is the best way to go cause there is no room in the engine bay for our 3.0's!! unless u remove the a/c unit, but here in fresno its 108 and rising so thats not an option for me

Some under-truck turbos are interesting, but folks find there's plenty of room in the right-front corner of engine bay, where stock air filter is. They flip the right-side exhaust manifold so it empties up and forward... obviously requires some custom bending/welding to get the necessary exhaust flows where they need to go.

Was going to turbo my 3.0 Vulcan, then I remembered what a RELIABLE puppy it is... figured I would rather do a low-to-the-ground sports car turbo project, and use my Ranger to run to the parts store, custom exhaust place, and tuning shop... lol.

May have to drop in the 4.10 gears, should the opportunity arise... oh, hold it... I'm 4WD... where am I gonna get 4.10 front diff??? :icon_confused:

I put a rear mount turbo on my 2.9 Ranger GT.

I used a $50 turbo.
There's another $1000 worth of stuff on the truck to make it live.
Then again it's been on the road for 3 years.

on the 4.2 v6 f150 fourm guys there put turbos under the truck i saw some that looked pretty good so you could go look there and see what they can show you they make it look pretty easy and of course you will have to do better gaskets and some ARP head bolts and some other hardware so you wont blow your heads off but thats me id rather be safe than sorry and ive seen guys blow the bottom end of their motors out so just be careful and use common sense

and for turbos ive seen guys use john deere tractor turbos and heard they are pretty good anda bit cheaper than buying new

this should be in the turbo thread i myself have been doing research on a morana stroker 3.3 kit since my oil pump went out and i have 289k on my trk gonna do a complete rebuild w/ high ratio rockers etc. turbo placement will be in the engine bay where the stock airbox was w/ the filter behind the headlight and only doing one header flip. i havent been on this site in a few months had questions on my lil 2.3 trk in the meantime since cash is slow for my turbo trk. well good luck w/ the turbo and looking forward to seeing more turbo 3.0s on the road, a good place for injector sizing and other resources is rogueperformance.com. flip thru the tech pages there and come up w/ your numbers, im going for 300hp+ so at least 44# injectors and larger fuel pump are required for my application. still in research stages myself but nice to hear other projects are in progress, keep up the good work and godspeed!
