Anyone have the powered sub under their seat?

I am shopping to upgrade the sound system in the 04 extended cab we bought for my son. I know the under the seat powered subs are not going to rattle your teeth, which I am good with. I am just curious if anyone has used them and if they recommend them. We are not wanting to take up space behind the seats so it's either a powered sub under the seat or not. We currently are planning a new head unit with Car play as well as replacing the 4 stock speakers. Trying to keep it budget friendly and as simple as possible, so not really wanting amps etc. Also don't know if adding the powered sub would overpower the new speakers in the stock locations if they are just running off the head unit and not with an amp on them.

Ended up with this head unit and a back up camera...

I'm planning on putting a jbl nano in my bronco at some point.. since the stock stereo is near on completely devoid of bass. 200$ & self powered, definitely won't overpower mid/highs.. especially in the ears of a teenager lol.. its only 200watts.

I answered this in the other thread, but I'll get more specific here. Which sub were you looking at? Either way, a shallow sub does not have the excursion, which is the full movement of the cone, as a conventional sub. Because of that, hey will put out decent bass at low volume, but will bottom out quickly if they are turned up loud.

Sub: I would recommend a powered Bazooka Tube. They can unplugged and moved, when needed, and they don't take up a lot of space. They are also very durable and can have items resting on them, if needed. They are made from a thick ABS plastic.

Speakers: 6x8 speakers can put out some really good sound. Unless you are amplifying them, I don't recommend getting speakers that handle over 40 watts RMS. If you do, it's like buying a Ranger and putting a lawn mower engine in it. It will work, but not like it should.

Sound deadening: I highly recommend using sound deadening material for the door. Put it on the inside of the door skin and on the door skin behind the door panel. This turns the door into a box and allows the door speakers to provide more bass. Just make sure you clean the surface with windex or something that won't leave a residue behind.

Radio: Carplay is nice, but they all glitch a lot. They are not very consistent, when it comes to being connected. I would recommend a double din with a bluethooth. You will still be able to change songs with the radio. You can mount the phone in a spot that makes it easily to view, if needed. The connection is much more reliable. Also, it's a good idea to have headunit that allows upgrades, such as multiple amplifiers.

I had the eight or 10 inch bazooka in my extended cab F150. I don’t think you’re gonna fit that in a ranger, it’s long. It wedged nicely between the front and rear seats.

The only thing I didn’t like about it, after an hour or so at high volume it would overheat and shut down, saving itself from meltdown.

This one, I paid just over $300 in 08 surprised it’s not $600

They are made in China now. That's why they haven't changed in price.

By the way, fire the subwoofer against the back wall.

I ended up getting a decent deal on a head unit and back up camera today. I have decided for now to just do that and update the stock speakers. I know the 6x8's are the stock but I have read that a round speaker can go in as well ( 5 1/2 I think...) without and modifications. With no plans right now for amps or anything high end will the 6x8 or round speakers give a better sound or will that not be noticeable?

A 5-1/2" speaker will fit. There are spacers, you can buy, that will cover the extra space. However, the 6x8 will give you more sound.

Thanks, I called Crutchfield today just to get their thoughts. The recommended these pioneer 6x8's. I cant remember all the tech stuff but basically stated they would sound as good as any with the head unit I am buying but if I ever ended up adding an amp they would handle that as well. They seem to have good reviews...
